Hi-Viz Workwear

There is a comprehensive compliance regime that governs and classifies hi-viz workwear in Australia. Onyx Safety workwear garments are compliant with the relevant Australian and New Zealand Standards. Check your garment label for more information.

AS/nzs 4399:2020

Garments that provide suitable protection from UV radiation.

AS/nzs 4602.1:2011

High visibility garments suitable for day and/or night use (Class D and N).

Eye Protection

Safety standards for protective eyewear are designed to ensure the eyes and faces of persons are protected against common occupational hazards. Onyx Safety eyewear and face protection is compliant with AS/NZS 1337.1:2010.

AS/nzs 1337.1:2020

This standard outlines requirements for non-prescription eyewear and face protectors.

LENS CAT: 0, 1, 2 & 3

Lenses are categorised by the amount of light allowed to pass through. Category 0 allows the most light to pass. Category 3 allowing the least amount of light to pass.

iMPACT protection: M OR H

Products marked with 'I' are suitable for medium impact protection. Products marked with 'V' are suitable for high impact protection.

Hearing Protection

Under AS/NZS 1270:2002, hearing protection is categorised into five classes: Class 1 being the lowest level of protection and Class 5 being the highest level of protection. Onyx Safety hearing protection products offer Class 5 protection and are compliant with AS/NZS 1270:2002.

This standard specifies the requirements for the design, materials and performance of hearing protectors.

The Sound Level Conversion rating measures the difference between the sound level of an environment and the sound level reaching the the protected wearer's ears.

Class 5 Protection

Class 5 hearing protection is suitable for noise levels of 105dB to 110dB. Using the SLC80 conversion, Class 5 protection reduces the exposure to at least 26dB.  

Hand Protection

The Australian standard for hand protection AS/NZS 2161.3:2020 now mirrors and incorporates the latest European standard for hand protection, EN 388:2016. Onyx Safety gloves are compliant with AS/NZS 2161.3:2020.

The European standard provides the comprehensive testing framework which governs the safety standards for gloves against mechanical risks.

Head Protection

Head protection is essential on most work sites across Australia. The Australian standard for head protection AS/NZS 1801:1997 classifies protective headwear into three categories Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3, as well as the required materials and composition for each . Onyx Safety helmets are compliant with AS/NZS 1801:1997, Type 1.
